What Does Signing Started Mean?
Most document systems tell you when a document is sent and when it is signed. The most important activity often happens in between. That activity is what Signing Started represents.
More than a view
Many recipients open a document. Far fewer begin completing it.
Viewed indicates awareness. Signing Started indicates intent.
A recipient who begins filling fields, reviewing required sections, or interacting with the signing process has crossed an important threshold. They are no longer merely looking. They are participating.
That is why Peekop treats Signing Started as a stronger signal than a simple open.
Sent
Low confidence. The document was delivered, but there is no active signing visibility yet.
Viewed
Medium confidence. The recipient knows the document exists.
Signing Started
High confidence. The recipient has begun active completion.
Signed
Completed. The signature step is finished.
A better follow-up signal
Following up immediately after a document is viewed can feel premature. Following up after signing is often too late.
Signing Started frequently represents the most useful moment for intelligent follow-up because it indicates genuine active completion.
It does not guarantee completion. Recipients can still pause, abandon, or delay the process. But it is often a stronger indicator of completion likelihood than a simple view.
